Former superhero teens are forced into a deadly game show, where dark magic and fear simulations threaten to shatter their team and drag one back to the underworld.
Gracie Dix’s Beyond Superhero School delivers high-stakes YA action as a group of teenage heroes transitions from normal high school life into a sinister, televised arena trap, a la Hunger Games style. Dix shines at portraying genuine adolescent vulnerability, particularly through Nick’s struggle with PTSD and the team’s emotional trials in the fear-simulation chair. The rapid shifts between game-show intrigue, demonic corruption, and sprawling battles make individual character arcs extremely fast-paced. It remains an entertaining read with several narrative focuses.
It is suited to teen and crossover readers who follow ensemble casts, school settings, superpowers, and action-driven plots.
