Karlsson draws on her bicultural background in Japan and Sweden to deliver a thoughtful, practical guide on shedding societal expectations, setting boundaries, and reclaiming one's authentic self.

Claim Your Voice explores what can happen when we gradually lose touch with our own voice—and what it takes to find it again. Jenny Jenkamichiko Karlsson combines personal experience with ideas about confidence, identity, boundaries, perfectionism, and personal development, while also offering practical exercises throughout the book.

What makes Karlsson’s story especially compelling is her experience between two cultures. She spent her first ten years in Japan before growing up in Sweden, and she reflects on the contrast between feeling encouraged to participate and take her place as a child and later learning to hold herself back. Her discussion of the Scandinavian Law of Jante alongside the Japanese idea that the nail that sticks up gets hammered down gives a familiar subject a distinctive cultural perspective.

Published by Mindboozt Publications, one of the book’s strongest ideas is that finding your voice does not mean becoming louder or more extroverted. It can mean recognizing what you need, setting boundaries, and making choices based on your own values rather than on the expectations of others. Her reflections on people-pleasing and motherhood make these ideas especially relevant.

The kintsugi-inspired image on the cover also becomes more meaningful as the book unfolds. The cracks are not something to erase; they are part of the story. In that sense, the experiences that shape us can also become part of what gives us our perspective.

The book explores a wide range of personal-growth topics; some ideas are presented more as introductions than explored in depth. Still, the Toolbox at the end provides useful exercises and strategies that readers can return to and adapt to their own circumstances.

Claim Your Voice is a practical and thoughtful invitation to look at the expectations we have absorbed and decide which ones still belong to us. It may remind you that finding yourself does not mean becoming someone new, but learning to listen to the person who was there all along.
